Winsto 3 - Lidcombe 1. Another good win today. Three well constructed team goals including one from 75.......cm. Play of the day must go to the Wilf of Romulus St who for a brief moment thought he was wearing the oranje of Arjen Robben.
Thanks MacDuff for your kind words, but the moment I was actually channelling at the time was this from Marco van Basten vs USSR in 1988. (Hope the link works better than my attempt!) Cheers to Lidcombe for a good, hard fought game played in the right spirit. Really enjoyed it.
Big weekend in the Super League with a top four clash and The Mighty Tangerines taking on Baulko Black on away turf. Baulko will be without their most graceful player I believe, as he's in Brazil researching 3m springboards. Apparently you just can't get the height off normal grass to complete the triple summersault. Sadly I'm MIA for the next few so I'll be eagerly awaiting updates from macduff and boots. I expect great things from the lads, and we should be well cemented in the top four after routine victories against the Blacks and Rockets. Watch this space, because like England at World Cups we travel more in hope than expectation.
Winsto 2- CHU 3. We started with 10 and just made a bare 11. CHU had all of Castle Hill on the bench. Great hard fought game played fair. Thought we deserved a draw out of it but in the end We ran out of legs.
The game had a bit of everything. The worst corner ever. The worst free kick ever. The worst throw in ever. And the funniest yellow card..... For telling his own keeper that he was going to save the penalty.
1st vs 3rd in a Sunday lunchtime catch up game was always going to be fraught with hangovers and the blustery conditions on the Teddy H Dirtbowl made wearing safety glasses a must. Unfortunately Georgie chose Stubbie Holders, thereby using up all the Defender Sponsorship monies a few weeks back.
The game was end to end stuff with both sides making a few uncharacteristic errors that can only be put down to dust in eyes and we were 1-1 after 20 minutes. After CHU hit the bar twice and had a free kick blocked on the line, Baulkho started to find a bit of 70’s rhythm.
Led by the Fonz and Chuck Norris, they are the most dangerous side in the comp. They also have a tricky forward who is prone to scratching and pulling (but thankfully not biting) and an Iniesta lookalike named Hollywood who would give Greg Luganis a run for his money. The moment of the match came on the stroke of halftime when Hollywood dived at full speed over the boundary fence and injured himself attempting a double forward somersault with triple reverse pike, right in front of the referee who nearly peed himself laughing.
At 2-1 down, it was Chuck Norris who dragged the blacks back into the game with a brave effort, although he left his teeth in the CHU keepers shoulder, this was no Suarez and we were sad to see the Abba keyboard player carried off with busted chops – no chance of a 9 month ban, just an unlucky collision, which also put Tampax out of the game for CHU.
CHU went 3-2 up with a well worked goal before a controversial Red Card turned the game on its head. It was scratchy who ran into the Defenders forearm and most people thought he was getting a yellow for the way he reacted – scratching and threatening to pull the left back’s hair! The black and white had other ideas, however, carding the CHU Defender for the initial foul and an early beer was enjoyed.
Scratchy and the Fonz combined to pull it back to 3-3, but Hollywood was still throwing himself over every stray shoelace in an attempt to win free kicks or to reduce CHUs numbers further. Thankfully the ref saw through him as it was a bit embarrassing for his teammates.
CHU grabbed a winner with a scrambled goal following a corner, then it was backs to the wall for the last 5 minutes (which felt like hours after a tough match at Winsto the day before). Anyway, another 3 points and a great battling display from the CHU, but full credit to BH Blk, who despite everything, have some great blokes in the team and try to play good football, only they are let down by a couple of tools.

Well happy to say that myself and a mate have just signed up for the mighty Baulko 35/2 whites for the remainder of the season, can't wait. Played with and against plenty of boys in this comp, really looking forward to reaquanting myself with some of you.
