Rocks 0 Auburn 1 - The bubble has burst ! No excuses Auburn played well and it hurts to say it but they really wanted the win much more than us. Beware of the wounded bull we will step up this week against Rouse Hill at North Rocks Stadium
After a flat 0-0 performance against rouse hill last week STMiks stepped it up a gear to get the points against Newingtion who looked to have been missing some. Depleted ourselves we had a pen saved and then 2 second half goals sealed the deal . Physical and fair today . I think we have had only 2 official refs all season. how have the other teams faired with the shortage ? Not good enough Granville !
A strong response by the Rocks boys this week against Rams. Between chasing the ball from one side of the field to the other due to the strong winds, the game was played mostly in the Rouse Hill half. Completely different game to Round 1 which was a lot more even. 2 well taken goals plus 1 that could be explained in no other way but lucky (Mr Beggs), gave Rocks a 3-0 win.
I think there have been less refs than in previous seasons. No ref for us this weekend but the stand in did a good job. We had a ref for the loss to Auburn, but i think we have only had a proper ref in less than half the games
With our win and Newington's loss, the 3 point gap (if Newington win there catchup game) is reestablished. Looks like Auburn also won which puts them on the same points as Newington with both having a catchup.
Parra 4 - 1 St Micks. No ref (again)so player stepped in. A wind assisted goal, a dubious penalty, an absolute gift due to my stupid infield pass, (worse game I have ever played in over 30 years) and a tight offside gave Parra the points. Micks hit the post twice, and on another day, would have taken the points. Stand in ref was as fair as he could be (thanks), think some of the Parra players should look at him as a bit of a model for the club. Nice guy. Some should take anger management classes - especially one gent who doesn't like to be tackled as he wants to hold the ball !! (his words, not mine).
Going to be tough now to break into top 4 - depends a lot on the other matches. Parra do have a tough run in - Newington twice and Rocks - Micks have catch up today, then Pendle, Bye, Rocks, Auburn and Rouse included in the run in. We just can't catch the breaks at the minute. God help the team we play when things go our way - knowing our luck, it'll be the bye !!!
Axe - think the points from the bye are from the last time we played Rydalmere... not sure though.
Congrats to Rocks - think that's the title now - Good Luck for the finals boys - and we will see you in a couple of weeks.
First off - a black and white and 2 linesmen. Yes, we had 3 officials !!
Didn't stop whinge fc from whinging though... to the point of it almost breaking into a fight. Think the ref forgot his cards. All in though, he did a great job - plaudits to him. Hope we have him again because he was the calmest man on the pitch ! But I'll tell you, they (Auburn) do not like it when they don't win, or when the don't get their own way. It's a shame because they have some skill and some pace. If they played as well as they argue and shout, they'd be a division 1 team. They had 13 or 14 today - and all bar 1 or 2 where referees as well !
0-0 at half time - Auburn didn't have a shot at goal - Micks bossed the game. 2nd half a through ball and a bit of hesitation in the back - 0-1 Auburn. Micks up the park - and a game of ping pong in the Auburn box - Penalty to Micks. After 4 mins of Auburn arguing - yes, 4 mins, we got the chance to take the kick. Our regular taker was having a breather - so up stepped an able deputy but with all the stupidity and arguing with us and the ref, they did enough to put him off. Not to be outdone though 10 mins later, he threaded a brilliant pass to the right, a cut across goal and it's 1-1.
From there, Micks totally controlled the game - Auburn had some nice passes, but nothing to penetrate. Micks had some more chances on goal, but their keeper is decent.
Considering Micks in the last 2 game had 12 players, we did well. I only wish we had a full and fit squad !!
Hard fought, and the next game at Webbs will be interesting - here's hoping for another ref - and it keeps Micks in the mix for play-offs. Still a long shot, but, with next game at home and a bye, we have a shot of gaining some more ground on the top 4.
Personally - if anyone is interested, I did one gent from Auburn asking how the arm was - so thank you for that. I also did give and receive a few hard tackles - some of which I probably went a little harder than normal - but I think that's justified given what happened last time. The fact we took a point off them makes it a whole lot sweeter.
Pendle Hill next.

Rocks took control of the game early which lead to Newington frustration. This came out in late tackles, nasty niggle and just poor play from Newington. We didn't have an official ref and one of the Newington supporters stepped up for the thankless task. But missing/denying a certain penalty early to Rocks and not controlling some of the tackles, late/behind/poor as they were, he did not control the game. Rocks were aggrieved but had a team chat at half time that this was the only ref and we had to suck it up, get up and get on with it. So Rocks controlled the game 3-0 at half time and with only 13 players down to 11.5 towards the end we pushed on.
Newington had less than 6-7 shots all game, one late opportunity came to nothing after a good/lucky save from Rocks stand-in keeper. Rocks defence was "Rock solid"! Midfield was superior and attack could have had several more goals but for late poor finishing.
My advice for Newington, stop living in the past, play to your current potential, as at least half of the team were, enjoy the game and realise that sometimes the ball doesn't bounce your way. We all have to go to work on Mondays.
Parra vs St Miks 4-1 Game i thought was generally played in good spirits. Can only speak from striker's point of view though aginst St Micks back line. Good bunch of guys had a decent chat n laugh during the game. I believe St Micks keeper was kicked in the head, accidentally id like to think too. I did apologise to him after game on teams behalf, hope hes ok. St Micks had a couple chances but i think difference was Parra took any chances we had. Ref i thought had a good game. Always going to be a few words said as long as after game everyone shakes hands. Good luck for remainder of season.
Parra vs Newington 2-0
Solid win by the Parra boys yesterday. Game was tight throughout, Ref was available and a linesman, miracles never cease, only 3rd time this year for Parra. Goal half way through 1st half for 1 nil lead at half time. Pressured by Newington in second half but defense held strong. Good second goal by Parra middle of second half made it 2 nil. 6 point weekend for Parra sees us into 3rd spot now.Again game was played in excellent spirit mostly. And to defender at the back Sam i think, u were right i still had chores to do after game mate, mrs wouldnt let me off haha
Newington better pull their finger out or they will lose 4th place to St Micks soon
Great game by Rocks, should have been 1 up after a few minutes with their "usain bolt" striker sprinting onto a through ball only to put it slightly wide with the keeper advancing.
Rocks did manage to score not long after when their left winger won the ball in the Parra half and held off the defender to toe poke past the keeper. Parra then hit back with a penalty. Before half time our normal keeper, playing his previous striker role, made it 2-1 with a great chip over the keeper.
Second half was all one way traffic for Rocks. Usain managed to beat the offside trap again and this time beat the keeper one on one. Should have scored a 2nd but put it straight at the keeper who could only parry it into a midfielders path for 4-1.
A penalty towards the end should have made it 5-1 put had to be taken 3 times before finally hitting the crossbar and the keeper then being fouled after punching it back into his own net.
A 5th goal did go in before the end so 5-1 final scrore.
Parra played as well as they could but couldn't sustain any attacks when they had the ball and Rocks happy to end their recent winning streak.
Nice to have a ref and 1 linesman but while the linesman had a good day, even seeing a "hand of god" from a corner for the 3 times penalty, the ref was on another planet on occasions. Gave a couple of blatant penalties as freekicks the other way and other odd decisions. Still rather have a ref than not .
Rocks Vs Parra 5-1 Game was played in freezing conditions, but in excellent spirit. Agree completely with figjam and about refs calls. Rocks could have and should have had 2-3 pens in first half. One all til just before half time and we were playing ok but gave away 2nd goal and cld not recover. Overall Rocks completely outplayed us and thoroughly deserved to win. The pen they did get was legit but farcical in the extreme with retake after retake. Well Done Rocks lads too good for us on the day, but great game played by all players when could have got out of hand by some ref decisions.
Rocks 6 Pendo 1 - freezing day , wet field , pouring rain enough said, 3-0 half time , lots of new players for Pendo we hadn't seen before , I don't think there were any other games The Axe Has Spoken !
Nth rocks 1- st micks 1 We Again started with just a bare 11 for the game against the leaders . A tough ask away but the St micks boys show character to lead 1-0 at half time against the ran of play. Although we did not hold the majority of possession we did a great job as a team defensively to limit rocks with a lone goal early in the second half which unfortunatly came in of the post and keeper. No ref , stand in did good but a few close calls where never gonna go our way. In all a great battle and happy to deny them a few more points again this season... They have more than enough :-)
Next week looks to be crucial for the top 4, any other results
Very entertaining game this weekend at Commercial Rd between Rouse Hill and Parra City with plenty of great goals for the hundreds of spectators.
PC started with only 10 players but matched RH's 11 after about 5 minutes. RH were 2 up in the first 15 but we were 3-3 (I think) by half time.
More goals with the lead swapping a few times and finished at 6-6.
Both teams were evenly matched across the park except yellows which PC won 3-0 Most shots were on target with the keepers saving a similar number..... 1 each I think The final result could have gone either way
Fortress Rocks remains intact! Rocks came to play for the minor premiership, the Saints (failing to live up to their name) came to sin! All due credit to saints tactics, 5 in a defensive line, 1 speedster up front and a mid-field that wanted to kick anything that moved, including the ball sometimes, drawing blood on a couple of tackles. We had a volunteer referee that played the advantage well but not being an official ref probably gave saints more license to hack away. I think if an official was present it would have been a different result both in score and casualties.
Anyway, the tactic worked and I think the score was justified for the bruising encounter it was. Saints have some very passionate & talented players, I hope this comes out in the race to the finish as you are good guys and seem to get our pulse racing when we play, maybe you could do the same for the other teams you will play on the way in.
Thank God we have the bye this week to recover from the bruises and scrapes.
