our game didn't go ahead on wednesday. the association told us on monday that it wasn't happening. no idea why - even if they were to restructure the comps, we'd still need to play against rage at some stage. mind you, with the injuries we're carrying at the moment, we're not complaining!
as to the 5 team comp, if there were any leftover sympathies for the hills association, i'm pretty sure they've all evaporated in the last week and a half.
we were looking forward to a bottom of the table clash, what with a shoestring line-up from a long injury list, but hills were reinforced during the week with the heart of the dummy-spitters' midfield staying loyal to the association and joining the hawkes. and an excellent midfield they have always been - combined with a few very handy players already in the hawkes' line-up, for mine, they're easily the strongest team we've played in our 4 games this season.
some very soft goals in the final stages blew the scoreline out so the ref stopped counting. game played in the excellent spirit we've come to expect over the last few years and really refereed itself (quite literally at some stages!).
p.s. forgot to mention, the highlight of my day - underscoring the sheer stupidity of the hills association split. the game before us was a hills association game between a couple of junior teams. at the conclusion of the game, those teams wheeled their goalposts from the field across to the other pitch, then the hawkes players had to wheel another set of goals into place for our game! can't even share goalposts!
