A solid start to the season for the Winsto lads with a 0-2 result away to North Rocks. The Rocks team had only 10 players with Winsto the bare 11. Both teams were full of running & I quite enjoyed the fact that all the players had to play the full match. The standout player was the North Rocks keeper whom made some fantastic saves & kept the scoreline respectable as Winsto did have The Rocks team under the pump for most of the match. It is good to be back on the sidelines as co coach of the boys this season. I will not be able to see all the matches but probably most.
A close match throughout with the lead changing a few times. Down by 1, up by 1, down when it counted. Winsto had the chance to equalise with about 6 seconds left but not meant to be. Probably a fair result. Well done to both teams.
A close match for the first 20 with Regents Park taking the lead after many near misses. The next 10 minutes saw Regents Park put another 5 away & it was all over. The Winsto boys battled well in the 2nd half only allowing 1 goal.
Hopefully the boys will not let the result get them down. They have been putting in the effort at training & improving their skills.
The boys best match of the season so far. Baulko were not the strongest opposition but kept at it for the whole match. Well done to them.
What I liked about our match was that the boys are starting to try to pass the ball instead of just kicking it. The movement is starting to come as well. Would be great if I could just stop the sideline yelling out "get rid of it" when we are in possession. I would rather them try to use some skill to beat a player or look up & pass than just boot the ball without any thought beforehand of where they are kicking it to. If they are tackled & lose the ball or their pass does not reach it's target, at least they've tried to play football.

St Michaels the better team but would have loved to have been able to go into half time just 1 down. We just kicked off after the 2nd goal when half time was blown. That was a killer blow. The boys tried hard, had their chances but could not find the back of the net.
I have been very pleased with the improvement in some of the boys so far this season.
One of those tough, tight matches that could have gone either way with whichever team was to score the first goal, probably winning. Today that team was Wenty. We had our chances but struggle in the opps 18 yard box. A very even 1st half with Wenty just shading us in the 2nd half. No 7 for Wenty a good little player. Well done Wenty. Once again some pleasing aspects of our play & the boys individually & as a team are improving.
Another tight match for the boys but after the first 15 minutes I always thought that we were going to win. A good individual goal where one of our centre midfielders broke through & used his speed to his advantage. I thought he should have shot with his right foot but being a left footer he had to pull the ball over to his left where he was still able to slot it away.
Our second goal was a beauty. Starting about 10 yards inside our own half, there was a few individual runs, about 7 passes which at this age & standard is very impressive with about 6 players involved & our 1st goal scorer putting away another left footer from just inside the box, with no opposition player touching the ball.
Well done to Ermo for never giving up & they did have a couple of chances but unfortunately for them, their boys shot directly at our keeper.
Good to see another post from you alfster, it does get pretty lonely on this thread. Even some of the old regulars that have felt sorry for me over the years have deserted me this season. Although I do know that they have a read.
Yes, Regents Park are the team to beat, we are no match for them.
Back to back wins for the first time this season & an improved result on our first round clash with N Rocks. I said to the kids before the match that my main objective for our second round clashes was improved results on the first round. 1 from 1. Big test next week v the comp leaders that put 7 past us last time. A couple of nice goals from the boys this week with some good backing up & movement after playing the ball, even a couple of passes backwards which is very rare. North Rocks kept at it all game & were rewarded with the last goal of the match through a combination of some good play & a lack of concentration from our defenders.
A disappointing performance by the boys today albeit against a far better team. First 10 minutes was tight but a couple of errors at the back & it was all over. Bits & pieces of good play by Winsto but we went backwards today which was disappointing to how we have been going the last couple of weeks. Hard to go well when our first touch was so poor. So much for trying to improve in every match in the second round.
Well done Regents Park.
It will take a very good performance by a team to overcome RP & they will have to be off their game a bit too.
Unlucky Keep trying.......I would assume you didn't carry on like a peanut like the BH coach did. We played a great game and were lucky with some deflexions but the BH coach should never be allowed to coach such a team. Extremly dissapointing to see and hear. I will be suprised if the kids come back/. GL for the next couple of games.
Nothing to carry on about when you lose 10 nil. Regents Park far too good for us. It was a good natured match with the local ref having a good match showing no favouritism at all.
Disappointing to hear a coach of a team carrying on like that. I cannot remember him being like that when we played them & the score was much closer.
The only times I get really annoyed on the sideline is when I hear a parent or a coach yell out to the kids "Get rid of it" or "Boot it". What do you want to get rd of it for when you work so hard to get it in the first place? And when people on the sideline or the ref (B&W) clearly do not know some of the basic Laws of the Game.
A solid effort by the boys yesterday with them playing some good football at times. It was a deserved win & comfortable but B Hills played their part in an entertaining good natured match. Some of the boys are close to understanding the value of a good first touch & passing instead of just kicking it. When they improve, we could end up being a fair side in the Div.
A deserved victory for St Michaels & well done to them, they were the better team. Our boys tried their best & put together some good football at times but lacked some concentration when needed. The scoreline was a little bit flattering to the home side though. Each week I see some things that a couple of the boys do on the field that we have been doing at training which gives me a smile. Every one of the boys has improved throughout the year & can hopefully improve some more before the end of the season.

Unfortunately I can not hide my disappointment at the refereeing today. We did not have an appointed B&W but a gentlemen associated with St Michaels (a B&W) offered to do the match. To say that I was dumbfounded by some of his decisions would be an understatement & it certainly did take away from what was a deserved victory by St Michaels.
Our parents are generally very quiet on the sidelines apart from cheering the boys on but even they were questioning many decisions.
3 or 4 handball decisions which were laughable (1 leading to a penalty) Missing 3 players being in an offside position when the ball was played & then recieved by 1 of those 3 by clearly being too far behind the play. Allowing the 1st half to go for 32min 20sec with St M 3rd goal being scored after the 31st minute.
Due to these decisions I was more vocal towards the ref than I have been for a long time & he had it against me that much that once when the ball deflected clearly off 1 of our boys right in front of where I was standing & went out for a throw, I signalled a St M throw, did he take any notice of me, of course not. A Winsto throw.
If we happened to be in a situation where he offered to do our match again if our match did not have an appointed B&W, I would not agree to him doing the match.
Why such a late post? I am off on a ride with the Winsto lads tomorrow & was trying to get some tips by watching The Tour De France.

A very good performance by Winsto today against an apparently under strength Pendo team even though they had 2 or 3 reserves.
We also had 3 players away that left us with just one on the bench.
A couple of good first half goals gave Winsto a 0-2 advantage at HT. A half that lasted for 32 & a half minutes mind you. One thing the local ref did not understand was that when I first mentioned the fact that time was up for the first half Winsto had the ball just outside the Pendle Hill box. Other than that, the ref had a good match.
Our lead went out to 3 with just over 15 minutes left. I made a change at the back & within the next 5 minutes Pendo had made a good comeback with a couple of good goals.
We did miss a penalty which would have given one of our boys our first hatrick of the year & a 4 nil lead I think but it was not to be. Luckily though for us a bit of sanity came back into our play & we scored our fourth for a deserved win.
One of our boys playing in a midfield role for the first time this season had his best match of the year just ahead of a couple of the other lads. Well done boys, it was a good victory & our training is coming off. Hopefully we can keep it up for the next few weeks.
A very good effort by the Pendle Hill keeper today whom was playing (according to his old man, a Winsto Gummie) just his second match in goals but looked very comfortable with the gloves on. The score could easily have been many more apart from some very good saves.
I see on the table that St Michaels & Wenty have played one match less than the rest of the field. Is this right or has a result not been put up?
A well deserved win by Wenty yesterday where they shot out to a 3 nil lead at HT that was always going to be hard to come back from. The young official ref had a good match & although it was definitely to our disadvantage he called half time at exactly 30 mins. One of our boys was inside the box, one on one with the keeper & just about to shoot, whistle, HT. Exactly how it should be. The Wenty coach actually thought that the ref should have let him have the shot & was surprised that he didn't. And the ref actually apologised at half time.
The half time score was the result of some good play by Wenty & a lack of concentration by Winsto. The first being a well taken penalty. The next 2 was the result of some slack marking & some good shooting. Our goal came from a free kick just outside the side of the box where luckily the ball beat quite a few players & went straight to one of our boys on the far post & he slotted it away well.
Once again there was some encouraging signs from the lads & a couple of the boys have improved a lot throughout the season. The result puts us 7 points behing 3rd place & 3rd place have a game in hand on us & we are at least 1 point clear of 5th place & we still have to play the 4 teams below us & the runaway leaders. At least at the moment the chance of making the semis is in our own hands.
