Yep, all is not as it seems on the lost 3 points and it will be contested.
Very sad some cannot accept a fair loss and have to stoop so low, especially when so many of the boys on each team are friends!
The Auburn District v CHU game was great football to watch and always good to be up against a very skilful, but fair team such as Auburn and a great bunch of lads too. A well deserved 1-0 win to Auburn!
Castle Hill United 3 - Barden Ridge 1. A great game of football to watch but Castle Hill remained dominant throughout the game and scored 3 beautiful goals to secure a spot in the State Cup Grand Final! Well done boys!
Congratulation Castle Hill United on making State Cup Grand Final! Knew you could beat Barden Ridge! It will be an amazing atmosphere, take lots of money as there will be a professional photographer taking some incredible action shots and selling them in the car park for $25 a photo. They are worth getting. Cheers, Fairgo
Thanks Fairgo! Yes, you did say we could beat them and I told the boys you had said so and it helped rev them up. They were a formidable opposition, but our boys brought their best to the game on the day and were just more hungry for the win.
I'll be sure to tell the parents about the photos!
State Cup twenty fourteen. Under 17’s. Castle Hill United 3 v Barden Ridgebacks 1.
Another very exciting match for the spectators with the result not guaranteed until the ref indicated just a minute to go. Thankfully for us the match did not go to Golden Goal this time. Castle Hill were the better team for most of the first half & tried to pass the ball around & play some good football with Barden defending & counter attacking when they had possession. There was a period where Barden started to take control of the ball & put pressure on our boys but could not breakdown the defence. C Hill’s first goal came from a snap shot from the left side of the field from about 20 yards out. The ball was struck reasonably well but the Barden keeper appeared to be a bit out of position & maybe a little bit unsighted with the ball going into the far right side of the goal. A nice right foot strike from a left footer. Barden’s goal came from some nice play down their right hand side with the goal scorer cutting inside, out pacing the two centre backs & slotting the ball away back across the goal, to the left of the C Hill keeper. Half time 1 v 1. The second half saw Barden come into the match more & had the better of possession & territory but not necessarily playing the better football. The conditions during the match were not fantastic with quite a strong cross wind that if anything was to Barden’s advantage. C Hill were now the counter attackers & had some promising forays into Barden’s half to no avail until one of the lads went towards goal, had to check & turn away from the keeper & the goal but was taken down by the out stretched keepers hand & the ref awarded the penalty. The right decision, did not look like a deliberate act by the keeper from where I was, although he was booked. The C Hill right back slotted the spot kick very calmly even with the keeper diving the right way. This saw the balance of the match change with Barden pressing constantly for the equaliser & C Hill turning the ball over easily in their half & becoming frustrated & making silly decisions & somewhat ill disciplined on occasions. One of these indiscretions saw an in-direct free kick awarded on the right hand side of the goals & about 22 yards out. The Barden player kicked directly at goal & luckily for C Hill the keeper did not get a hand on the ball in trying to save the shot. Hence the ball hit the back of the net & after checking with his linesman, the ref correctly awarded a goal kick. This was real heart in the mouth stuff. I am not quite sure which happened first the free kick above or what I believe was the defining moment in the match & it does not matter. A Barden attacker broke through running across field within 12 yards of the goal but was chased by the C Hill left back who tackled at precisely the right moment blocking the shot & within seconds C Hill were attacking, they did not score but if Barden had, it would have been very hard for C Hill to have lifted & kept Barden from going on to win the match. Barden kept pressing as they had to & this is what finally caught them out, a through ball to the C Hill player that scored the first saw him notice the keeper way off his line & he calmly & deliberately lifted the ball over the keeper & into the back of the net from about 28 yards out. 3 v 1 & that was how it stayed with Barden not giving up & still pressing for the last 5 or so minutes until the ref blew full time. C Hill now goes through to play Bosco from the Sutherland Association (as Barden were) in 2 weeks time in the final of The State Cup. I believe at Blacktown but that has not been confirmed. If it is, I presume it will be on the artificial pitch where The Champion of Champions finals were held last year. Good luck boys, you have done yourselves proud by playing the way you have & reaching the final, hopefully you will go on & experience the thrill of winning.
Good luck CHU in the final Bosco were the team that knocked us out . We should've beaten them but didn't convert our chances . Their strength is their fast wingers . There's also a tall defender who comes up for corners . He scored one against us and is the go to guy in set pieces . Make sure you have a good defender marking him when he goes forward .
Go for gold CHU, barden are in boscos comp and when i last looked they were below barden. I know you can beat them, just steal those nerves. You can definately take this for granville! Southern districts have about 60 teams in state cup, more than double granville association. We do well to have teams each year in state cup grand finals. I recall Baulkho was also representing granville in 17s last year at grand final. the year before auburn district won grand final for i think was the under 17s. So southern districts have something to worry about playing CHU. I watched the CHRSL game against Bosco and CH should have won, just unlucky. Skill wise CHU should take the price. Cheers fairgo
We are confident of doing well in the final but you know finals football, anything can happen!
I was also amazed to see there wasn't more Granville teams still in the comp, especially considering the quality of the teams from the district. From what I can see we are the only Granville team left, so the boys are eager to secure the win for the club and association!
Thank you Fairgo, hopefully we will keep the nerves in check for tomorrow.
Had a 14 - 1 win over Rydalmere today but don't like wins like that, as the opposition was rattled and fell apart a bit after they had a good start. I tried to limit the goals by taking off my main play makers but no matter what I did our boys kept scoring.
The Rydalmere team are a good bunch of boys though, but not the best preparation for us for tomorrow!
Hey allballs, good win against poor rydalmere. Terrible for the boys playing in what is the obvious wrong division. We didn't play them in first round, they forfeited the game despite an invitation to play any other time. I think they forfeited another game as well. Cant remember, but i think it might have been Auburn FC? According to my reading of the rules you can be in a bit of strife for forfeiting two games.. We won 5 nil against baulkham hills. How did the rest of the boys go? Cheers, Fairgo
I spoke with the original coach of Rydalmere in our first game and he told me 3 of his best players quit the night before so I suspect that had something to do with itheir change of form and the forfeits.
Hard luck CHU, we know that terrible sinking feeling when you loose state cup, but you were there, grand finalist and to be there is something that the boys will remember forever. They will get over the disappointment and be proud of what they have achieved in time. Cheers Fairgo
Thanks Fairgo. Unfortunately nerves got the better of our boys from the start and most of the first half and we conceded two early goals from simple errors. We came back strong after half time and won the second half but just couldn't get the equalizer. It was a good move on their part not to play their normal comp game on Saturday as they had the energy to all get back and defend quickly when we pushed.
It was a great experience for the boys though and when they get over the disappointment I am sure they will realize how well they did to get there.
