Congratulations United! Was a good game to watch! Hard luck RSL, you were very strong in the first half. It is a feat to make it to grand finals. I was lucky to watch our 13s win and our 14s win, so all in all for me it was a good day! Leeds how did you go this afternoon? Cheers Fairgo
Hey Allballs, The coaching and management of the team are certainly the driving force behind the success of CHU, well done in keeping the team motivated, it's no easy feat at this age. Thanks for the update on leeds game. We play Saint Marys in COC. I think they are from McCarthur Football Association. They will be stiff competition, they are undefeated in there comp with 91 goals for from memory. The lowest scoring team in their comp was about 34 against so not the differences seen in our comp with the for and against. Hopefully it will stop raining and we can get some training in before 21st september. Cheers Fairgo
Thanks Fairgo! You're right 17 x 17 year old players are a handful, especially when some don't agree with your decisions, game plan, tactics, etc!
Luckily they are really into their football though and when they see the reasons/results for such decisions, they are mature enough to understand.
Best of luck to you and your boys in COC. St Mary's do have impressive credentials with a 73 GD and the team that came 2nd 7 GD! However, there's no telling the quality of the other teams in their comp, with only 6 teams in their U17 comp. The comp also only had a Div 1 option, so you'll find a lot of the teams had no option but to be in a Div 1 comp, when they could be more Div 2 or even 3 on skill.

Having turned up at half time from my 15/4's loss with the weather being crap & C Hill down by one, it was actually really hard to get into the match. I had heard that RSL had the better of a scrappy first half & that C Hill would have to lift a few gears to get back into the match. The second half was still reasonably scrappy with neither team really being on top & still the excitement was not quite there. I was talking to fairgo & then C Hill were awarded a penalty. Almost immediately the nerves started as I was led to believe that if this occurred, Leeds Jnr would be taking it. Sure enough, that was to be the case. He retrieved the ball from the sideline & walked not overly convincingly towards the spot. The ref took the ball from him??, he wished the keeper luck, got the ball back, placed it & walked back. At the top of his mark the confidence appeared to grow & he ran in & slotted it away very well with the keeper going the other way. 1-1, game on. This obviously lifted C Hill & they started to believe a bit more & their play did pick up but not to the stage that they were always going to win. RSL had a couple of half chances that they could not take advantage of but they were still in the game. A nice ball was played in from the left to the centre of the park & just inside the box. It maybe was a bit closer but from the other end of the park it was hard to judge. I think the keeper started to come but was caught out as the attacker leapt higher than the defender & put the ball over the keeper & it was 1-2. That is how it stayed & C Hill United are the Grand Champions. Well done to them, well done to RSL for making the GF & congrats to Auburn Districts for the Minor Premiership & good luck for the COC.
Hi Allballs, yes we play next week, still don't know where. Hoping for Ray Marshall as we are listed first as host team. I will feel better when i see all players back from injury, but worry about fitness. Our 13s won on sunday 2 nil. I can testify that leeds and keepers mum couldn't look when Leeds jnr took the penalty kick. I had to coach both of them into watching. It was an exciting game to watch and congrats to both castle hill teams. It was a feat for RSL to come from Division 2 to the GF in division one. I also enjoy reading Leeds commentary on a game. I thought i was the only one who wrote long posts, but in my occupation i get paid on how much i write so that's my excuse! It's been a shame that leeds hasn't watched as many games this year with coaching and playing otherwise we would have had more commentaries. Cheers Fairgo
We played Mccarthur District , st Marys today in COC. St Marys got the first goal in first half. It was an interesting game. I felt our boys were the stronger team but couldn't seem to put the ball in the net. Second half we were very dominant, but still not able to put the ball away. Shot after shot missing or saved by their keeper, with about 3 minutes to go, finally a well deserved goal to equalise the game. Into golden goal and our boys were still very dominant and finally a goal! The other team were very disappointed as they were undefeated all year, must not have been in state cup! Some of the boys were very angry at losing and one slapped my hand away when i went to shake his hand, complaining it was their first loss all year. I thought they should play some of the teams in our comp and maybe have some humility. They would certainly know defeat in our comp! We didn't have our centre back or left back so we went in knowing we didn't have our usual strong defence that carries our team! Always risky playing boys out of position, but they put their heart into it and were the stronger team on the day. We will play the winner from colo cougars and connells point, both strong teams having played them over the years. We will have a full team for the first time in a couple of months! We will even have to sit a player out as we have 17. Our 13s also won, so a good day for auburn/Granville. Cheers Fairgo
Sounds like another nail biter going into extra time but obviously your boys' quality shone through.
Sounds like they were sore losers, which is never nice, and obviously they are not used to copping a loss judging by their reaction. Their coach needs to spend a few sessions teaching them how to be good sports!
Congrats again and I look forward to reading the report on your next win!
Thanks allballs, i am interested to see who won in colo cougars v connells point. Interesting colo play in the 18s comp they don't have a 17s in the Nepean Association. I suppose they combine the two age groups as they have a 17s and 18s representing Nepean from the same comp. they must have 2 minor premiers. Anyway looking forward to the next weekend. Cheers Fairgo
Yes, there's a lot of teams playing their normal comp in the U18's but are U17's sides.
Connells point was knocked out of State Cup by Bosco in semis and then Bosco beat us in the final and we just had a shocker first half, so I believe your boys can take both Connells Point and Bosco.
Of the other teams that made it through, the only other team I know anything about is Normanhurst who are in the Gladesville Comp where they are very dominant but the Gladesville Comp is not as hard as the Granville Comp in my opinion, so I'd say you'd have a good run against them too.
Hi allballs, thanks for your research and encouragement. It was a pretty convincing win connells pointon colo. 7-1. Will have to see on the day. We play connells point at 10.15am at ray marshall. We have come up against normanhurst before, we have beaten them all but 1st game in state cup this year. They are a good team and would love the opportunity of a re match! We didn't have our star defence players in first round of state cup. Luck on the day as to who gets the ball in the net! Hope our strikers can put one away. Thanks again for your encouragement! Cheers Fairgo
Hi , well what a woeful game we had against Connells point! Started off ok with a one nil lead and then just before half time Connells equalised. Went into second half ok. We had 3 penalty shots awarded against us, one of our players said what the f... Was that for! And red carded and sent off. Down to 10 players. Our defenders were so upset the 3 came off even our goalie came out and changed his position to get out of goals. Even one of the Connells players couldn't understand the last penalty shot which our player was carded for. It was just one of those games. In saying that Connells were a very good team and had some great passes and marked well. Their training really showed. Not even sure what the score was, 4 or 5 one, but who knows i lost interest when our backs were sitting on the bench disgusted with the game. Our 13s won so still in it for Granville. I saw a united team playing but not sure how they went, hopefully they won for granville! Fairgo
