At tonight's GDSFA GM, the decision was made to cancel/defer all of this weekend's games. Mixed/mens games to be played over the next few Sundays on a staggered basis (avoiding conflicts with State Cup games, etc). Ladies games to be played on Monday of June long weekend. O35L (Fri nights) could be mid-week or middle of June school holidays
Here is one of the reasons I am often unhappy with the management of the comp. A decision was made over 8 hours ago. And where do I find out about it? On the UNOFFICIAL forum for the association. The GDSFA have a website - no mention of it. They also have a Facebook page - no news. So here is the thing - do I believe what is posted here as gospel or not? One way to fix this issue....communicate people! It' not that hard! It is 2015, we live in a digital age where you can communicate with thousands in one simple post.

Patience Obadiah. Comp secretaries were informed and I am sure you will receive word about it this morning. I hope that the Granville website not being updated after 10pm on a weeknight hasn't inconvenienced you too greatly, and that the difference between finding out on Wednesday evening and Thursday morning hasn't caused your entire season to be ruined.
No I am not saying that it has ruined my season....not sure where you go that from.
But how hard is it to communicate? We have a website for a reason. We have a Facebook presence for a reason. If it is not to communicate this kind of stuff what is it for? What would the issue have been with taking 5 minutes to post something? Is there something I am missing?
In change management we are taught communicate early, communicate often. When people hear nothing, they start to guess.
This particular case isn't the only instance so I am not jumping at shadows, merely linking this occurrence with a frustration that I have had for a number of years. Satisfaction with the management will improve if decisions or progress are communicated regularly and in a timely manner, and expectations are managed.
Talk to your club. First thing I did last night at 2215 was send out a text and update our Facebook page. Most likely you didn't hear as I'm pretty sure there was no one from your club at the meeting last night
Quite possibly that like your club the web person wasn't there, they don't do the upgrades themselves I'm pretty sure, so the chances of getting the web guy to do something after 2200 at night I imagine would be pretty remote I would think, after all not everybody lives and breathes by the net. It seems too many people do, but for some it's just another communication tool, not something that dictates their life to the extent that they let it dictate everything they do
... for some it's just another communication tool, not something that dictates their life to the extent that they let it dictate everything they do
My point is that it is a communication tool (and a very effective one at that) and one that we are not using - instead we rely on the association telling the club reps, and then the club reps passing it down through whatever communications plans it has in place. I am not suggesting that we dictate our lives by it, but I am suggesting announcing these big decisions onto that communications tool - get the information out quickly and easily - still tell the clubs, but don't rely on them to be the ones that pass the message on. There are lots of opportunities to use this.

One of the 2 clubs I am currently involved with sent out an email last night to advise everyone that Round 3 had been deferred at last night's meeting. I agree the clubs need to do this, however the Association's communication does leave a lot to be desired.....nobody knew we would even be playing Round 3 this coming Sunday until last week! Tell me why they could not have placed a notice on the website when the early rounds draw was released along the lines of "please note, we intend to play round 3 on Sunday 26th April, however we cannot finalise the details until all ground availability is known" Simple really, and would have avoided the groans from parents when told last week they would be playing on Sunday. Luckily, there is still a GOD!
I just looked at the Granville site approx.12.56pm today and guess what there is still nothing there to let people know that this round has been deferred until when ever. The only news there has been there for weeks no new news. Go Granville

Obediah, I'm with you! It takes less the 2 mins to post a status on FB saying "Round 3 postponed, more news to follow." Whether it's 10pm or 10am the association should be broadcasting this sort of news, it should not be left up to the clubs when a whole round is called off! It should be the clubs responsibility when it is localised ground closures. By the way, most websites have logins for administrators to go in and update or add news etc., if Granville don't they need to wake up to themselves and move into current times.
