Congratulations to Guildford County for their win yesterday against Winston Hills in extra time. It was a top hard fought match. Good luck to Guildford next week against Parra city...you will need it, they are very tough opponents. A huge congratulations to the Winsto boys for showing such great sportsmanship. Guildford could not find their cards and I asked the boys if they wanted to enforce the card rule ( knowing that if they did it guaranteed a spot in the GF) their response was that was not how they wanted to get in and wanted to play. They showed what football is really about at club level...coaches, parents and administrators could learn a lot from these young men. These boys have made their coaches and parents very proud.
I was there and it was a very enjoyable and exciting game (probably the "most exciting" of all the games).
Guildford was up 1 - nil in fist 10 minutes from a penalty goal. Parra City defender tackled Guildford striker and elbowed him in the back (from where I was watching). Picked up by the young referee (well done) and shown a yellow card as well.
Guildford were then on the attack for the rest of the half and managed to score another brilliant goal with about 5 minutes to go in first half. Parra City were not the usual self and they were against the wind in the first half, which I think played havoc with their game. I think 3 yellow cards were given out in the first half and 2 in the second half.
Second half, Parra City came out a different team. They seemed to be on their game at last and the wind was at their back. They kept peppering the goal an scored 2 in quick succession, that made the last 10 minutes of the game extremely exciting and finally Parra City scored the winning goal.
A very good game the crowd got a little excited but behaved and a good game had by the young refs as well.
yeah the young lad on the guy is a pretty good ref (not mine he was elsewhere) he did the U17 State Cup Final and I believe at 16 also did the WSL Reserve Grade Final the other week, not a bad track record. He also regularly does U16 &18 SYL games as well so 16/2's was a good break for him although it did still have some excitment.
The game itself was a goood fast game, wil be interesting to see how Parra City do in Div 1 next year, I think they should have been put up there after Auburn FC were kicked out of Div 1, might have been a more interesting comp
