2 great games today boys, here's Dicksons summary: Greystaines v St Micks My first look at the Greystaines number 10 I have heard so much about. He started brightly but in the end was dominated by the St Micks number 10 who is as good a player I have seen in this division all year. I don't remember seeing him when I watched St Micks earlier in the year, maybe Oake can fill me in. Game was pretty even but St Micks just seemed more likely to score throughout.
Auburn v Pendle Hill Auburn were tremendous and I really felt they deserved something out of the game. Got to say Pendle Hill have a few really good players but their theatrics on every single tackle is appalling. It wasn't just one or two players either its almost like they practice it. Nothing worse in my book than screaming like a girl when you haven't been touched and gesturing to the ref to give yellow cards. I'd be interested to get big macs thoughts on this one.
Congrats to Pendle Hill on makIng the GF and good luck to St Micks and Auburn for next week. Should be a cracking game.
Dickson99 - our number 10 shut Greystanes 10 down the last time we played them. If his legs hold up he'll be back next week. He and one of his mates joined us this year, and the rest of the boys have been together for about 3 years, with one bloke 16 years in the club, another 15 years.
I've held off the Pendle Hill review up to now, but I have to say I agree. It is painful to watch, and even worse when the ref falls for it. You should have seen our first game against them 8 cards to nil against us. Our boys got frustrated with it, and in the end poor discipline cost us. Hopefully we have learnt from the experience, and won't get sucked in by their tactics again.
We look forward to the Auburn game. They have a terrific spirit and never give up, and compete to the end. It makes for a great match every time.
Shout out to the Greystanes boys who stayed back after their game to cheer us on, all the boys appreciated the support. Too gutted to talk about the game yesterday, but congrats to Pendo for making it through. Would've liked to play the game with 11 players, but the ref was overly offended by one of our boys using the 'F' word 10mins in! Straight red for swearing! Unbelievable! The irony is, Gas was popping penalties in at training left right and centre. Pressure is a pregnant dog.
Looking forward to coming up against St Micks this week. Will be another cracker!
We're glad someone else noticed the Pendo boys falling like ballet dancers Dickson, we were starting to think it was only us. Frustrating playing against a team like that when the referee is so trigger happy.
Interesting bias on this board but lets be honest we all view our own teams as the hard done by ones in our own minds.
Teams seem to love pointing the finger at other teams for dissent with a referees opinion but always seem to overlook their own actions.
To call out Pendle hill as arguing with the Ref in the semi final is ludicrus. The referee punished an Auburn player for language and dissent early in the game and was looking for any opportunity to level the field in that regard. If anyone can name three instances where the ref's call was argued with I'll give you a cookie. I will even give you one to start, the immediate precursor to the penalty in extra time where the player on the deck in the box used the insides of his arms to centre the ball in front of himself to line up a shot (which the ref even mentioned he saw but didn't act on). That leaves two more...
I will not disagree that we generally argue against ourselves however, fair and honest call there.
The red was more for the C word than the F word I think but both are punishable to the same degree when said at that volume especially when talking to a ref even if it is not directed at him. That being said (as I said when the card was displayed) I didn't think it was warranted as the current mood of the game was level headed, sometimes the punishment should be tempered by the flow of the game even in situations where the rule book says otherwise.
Oake, That you even have the nerve to question the sportsmanship of other teams is frankly astounding.
As for Auburn, very good team. It was nice to see a team that played flowing football rather than the hoof it up field and hope someone gets on the end of it that I have seen so much of this season. That they got stronger as the game got on is an even bigger credit to them as a team. They were always my pick for opponents in the GF going off the play I saw from teams this season. I am not sure they will make it as St Micks can play some strong football but if they play at the level they played in the second half of the semi final I don't see anyone being able to stop them from achieving it. I honestly wish them luck I have much respect for the football they played on saturday, even with the accusation of going to the ground easy from one of their players here which is depressing to hear considering that game was played from start to finish in the true spirit that all games should be played.
Thank you all for allowing me to say my piece, I realise coming into a thread where the flow is against you and your team and stating your side is both rarely of use or actually read and considered but considering how one sided, and in some cases, outright illogical some of the comments have been it is only fair the other side says something.
To all those who have already played out their season I hope to see you next year. To those with games still to play, good luck and I hope you are all able to play to the best of your abilities.
Nagashi - if you've read the threads you'll see we have agreed, and disagreed on many matters. And we have sometimes changed our views based on what others have written. It is a discussion. That's what it is for. I think you'll find the claim is that Pendle Hill are guilty of appealing to the ref more often than the others. No one else claimed their own team was perfect. I did not accuse any team of poor sportmanship. I accused a player. I think it would go a long way to making the next time we face that side an enjoyable experience for all if he was man enough to put his hand out and shake the other player's hand and say "sorry, I blew it, that was dumb". Pretty simple really.
Bigmac, If both teams play like they did last week it will be a great game. I think after the performance you guys put up against Pendle Hill you will be hard to beat. I'm gonna say Auburn to win a high scoring thriller. I also think you'll take out the GF.
