I agree Golfer, Team Official is misleading to many people and thus they think they can sit with the team. I raised this same idea to change name to 'Spectator official' at a GDSFA meeting last year but it wasn't taken up. I think this would help in making the role clearer. We often get backchat from visiting teams when we politely ask the 'Team official to move out of the technical area' and be with the spectators as they believe they are allowed to be there. I think too that the 'Spectator Officials' vest should have something printed on it such as 'Respect the game' or alternatively they wear a lanyard with a card that has some brief rules about their role.
U would really think as adults and parents this is not really needed. I havent seen many that are good at it and really grow up or F off......It is getting worse and worse across all codes and 1 bloke in a fluro jacket aint gunna do a thing
I saw a match yesterday where the Team Official was pacing up & down the sideline well outside any so called 'technical area' yelling instructions to the team he was involved in. When he entered the field of play during a stoppage without the referees permission I approached him as he came off & told him that his role was to be with his team's parents. Rather angrily he informed me that he was the team's coach. I told him that he could not be the team official & be the acting coach at the same time. He then passed the vest onto another parent & continued pacing up & down the sideline.
Match at Masonic Field 1 before the 13/4's match. He was from the visiting team.
