This season I have seen and heard of many under 8 and 9 games played at grounds where the field sizes have been way too big.
The correct field size for under 8 and 9 is 30-40m wide by 40-50m long (approximately 1/4 full size pitch). Many clubs play games on 1/2 size pitches. This is way too big for kids this age, playing 7 a side, and results in low scoring games.
I understand that not all clubs have the resources to ensure that all SSF fields are exactly the correct size, but when a field is clearly twice as big as regulation then it is inappropriate.
I have seen games at the following grounds with half size fields: Castle Hill RSL at Eric Mobbs Reserve Rydalmere at Rydalmere Park Auburn FC at Webbs Avenue St Michael's Baulkham Hills at Crestwood Reserve
Maybe these clubs are not aware of the correct field sizes and SSF is relatively new.
I, for one, look forward to the day when the children can look forward to playing on the same size ground each week.
